Fiat – Why more South Africans should consider Fiat’s 500 as a next buy

Since 1957 the Fiat 500, otherwise known as the “Cinquecento”, has been capturing hearts an finding homes. Since its launch in the late 50s, close to seven million units have been sold world-wide. The latest Fiat 500 which is an all-electric model was launched in Europe in early 2022, but will not be coming to South Africa any time soon although they are testing an electric car locally.

TwinAir Fiat 500
This version of the Fiat 500 has been around for a very long time. In 2021, Fiat South Africa launched four updated versions of the 500 TwinAir: the Cult, Connect, Sport and, finally, Dolcevita.

Made for a Variety of People
If you are a new driver, the Fiat 500 is perfect with its small size easy to use controls. These cars do not break the bank and it offers up-to-date features, not bad for a price of R274 900. This is a perfect car for young executives, particularly since many find themselves working from home.

The Fiat 500 Sport boasts enough power and torque in with its 0.9-litre two-cylinder turbo petrol engine, with 63kW and 145Nm on tap. It includes lightweight steering, an easy-to-use clutch pedal and an impressive five-speed gearbox. The 500 Sport uses little fuel, with Fiat claiming that it will use 4.5 litres/100km.

It has everything you need
There is an abundance of comfort in the interior, with an excellent balance of comfort and sporty both inside and out. The digital instrument cluster, which is unique for this compact car class, is easy to read, use and allows you to instantly connect your smartphone and play your music without lag.

The two-door configuration is not a deal-breaker when it comes to practicality. You can easily turn off the passenger airbag and fit the child seat to the front. You can also place the seat into the back by dropping the rear seat bench and sliding the child seat in through the large boot opening. Despite the car looking compact from the outside, there is a great amount of space on the inside.

Why should you buy the Fiat 500?
For what it can offer at its price tag, this Fiat makes so perfect sense if you are after something stylish, new, reliable, and affordable to drive and maintain. You can reduce your monthly mobility commitments without feeling like you’ve downgraded. The Fiat 500 Sport comes with a five-year or 100 000km warranty, and you can add an additional service plan.
